Graduating high school was something I had dreamed about for years, and it was ultimately a disappointment. We had breakfast with the teachers, photographs, an assembly. I won a trophy for being the top in Drama. We had our final year photograph, and then it was over. Twelve years of hard work, late nights finishing assignments, early mornings, packed lunches, starched uniforms, shifting friend groups, library books, winter stockings, drama rehearsals, art classes, free dress days, photography studios… it had all come to an end, and all I could think was how hungry I was. I went to the city with my best friend and we split a chicken katsu at our favourite Japanese restaurant. We talked about nothing in particular. I went home and turned on the tv. It had finished, and I felt nothing.
